40 Days of My Body: Day 14 Say It, Do It

October 2, 2009

in 40 Days

Do you practice what you preach? In what areas of your life? My current 40 day cycle is dedicated to practicing what I preach (and 15 other folks have joined me in the quest as of today):
Follow Your Passions;
Trust Yourself; and
Do What You Say You’ll Do (among other soapbox topics)!

HOWEVER: I hadn’t been living in integrity and practicing what I tell my clients and audiences to do. YIKES and wow–it feels good to be rolling in resonance for what I know needs doing.

I am not alone in my quest. The roll call is at 16 people (including me)! Some are getting organized, others giving up fast food and some are simply breathing!
Tanya Geisler–40 days of hatha yoga
Petra Korn–on her body
Tia Reddy–yoga and exercise.
Alisa Bonsignore–working out and food conscious.
Suzie Powanda–no fast food or beverages.
Julie Rorrer–training for the Austin marathon in Spring.
Emma Alvarez Gibson–some bit of exercise, every day.
Joyce Black–21 days without caffeine/general detox.
Carabunga is rocking 40 days of hardcore productivity.
Paula Trucks-Pape and her husband: 87 Days of exploring their passions
Monica Kingsbury: 30 days of the Candida diet to deal with her sweet tooth
Jack and LisaMarie Rowell: 30 days of extreme health (alkaline diet) (starting 10/15/09)
Diane Sherry Case: 3 weeks of walking

Well, you're on it. You're doing what you said you were going to do - an inspiration to us all. I was doing well on the 20 minute walks four out of five days. I'm moving forward though - will start again tomorrow.

    Hi Dyana,

Good luck to you and thanks for the nudge. I'll be playing my drums everyday. Um, I'll go with 30 days. I have some travel coming up; will find a skin substitute.

Yahooo! Paula. You are ON the roll. Way to go. Hey, if all else fails, there's always a table top or lap that needs rocking. Keep the beat!
  • Dyana,

You want me to practice what I preach. WHAT?! ;)

Yes, I am practicing what I preach most of the time. The thing I'm most proud of finally deeply and truly committing to this year is my daily meditation practice. I preached it for many years and toyed with it for even more. I always seemed to find an excuse--especially after the birth of my daughter.

Finally, I did a 30-day commitment and now I can proudly say that I am a faithful in my practice. So much so, that I cannot remember what day I'm on--maybe day 70 or so? And I know and trust that it will happen daily for me. Period.

Thanks, as always for the inspiration and insight.

    ROCK IT!!!!!

Yep: I do! Way to go into that space that you know works for you! I'm proud of you, too. I'm really looking forward to the day when I lose count on taking care of my body--thank you for showing me that's possible--right now, I'm still counting in fractions! Getting there, tho. Keep on preaching, Amy!

OK, count me in! Starting yesterday I took up 21 day challenge to develop a cardio workout habit, so at least 30 min. a day for 21 days. And I'm doing it because I know it's what need to be done to have the energy and strength for all the other stuff. Thanks for the inspiration and the challenge!

You are IN, Cindy--thank you so much for jumping in--we are creating a giant session of double-dutch, huh?
  • Both creating and believing in personal principles is one very important journey; upholding them in practice is another, more difficult one, I think. It's really really motivating to see you and all these other quest-ers openly exploring their needs and desires. :) We can totally do this!

I think the best example where I practice what I preach is in my relationships with others. It's the most natural thing, actually -- if I were to fake how I felt or try to manipulate someone or pretend to like someone I didn't, it's so easy to feel slimy and criminal. So I just follow my intuition. But I could definitely use some more practice in the work/attitude area.

I'm on Day 2 (well, Day 3 now!) -- woo hoo for productive power!
  • dyanavalentine
Way to go, Cara! Thanks for magnifying the motivation by questing with your bad self. Ohhh, juicy phrase: slimy and criminal. Love that you are taking a stand for integrity--the work/attitude area is going to get way groovy as you work through the productive power cycle--trust that.

Nice posting. Do you know about these yoga books?

  • dyanavalentine
very cool--thanks so much for sharing SFAuthor--do you use them? How? When?
  • Thanks for the mention of our quest! It's amazing what a great effect synergy has - by which I mean the more people that come together to share their dreams and support each others work, the more work gets done, more ideas come to fruition, more joy is released. I'm just psyched (how 80's) to get started on this journey.

Of course, Paula: it's really all about the gathering of dreamers AND doers. Thank you for joining in and for being your own catalyst.
