40 Days of My Body: Day 17, 90%

October 6, 2009

in 40 Days

40daysDV.17I’m on a quest to spend 40 days working on my body, in service to my business and my own path of finishing what I start. I am committed to exercising 6 days/week, keeping a food journal and being more aware of ways I use (and abuse) my body. Going public is extreme, yes, and it’s working for me and the 18 folks who have joined the quest!

I really pushed in my session with Sunny today. I’d say I vacillated between about 60% and 98%–breathed through the strain and relished in the relaxing (few) moments. Rarely, I give myself 90%; just for me. I give my clients my best. When I’m teaching, I push myself to discomfort as I raise the bar for students. When it’s for me, I’d say my track record is to give my needs about 70%, on a good day. That is CHANGING through this 40-day process.

I’m wondering where you push, for YOU? What’s your 90%? Is there somewhere in your life you can push today? Make it count and say it out loud.

I am not alone in my 40 Day quest. The roll call is at 18 people (including me)! Some are getting organized, others giving up fast food and some are simply breathing! Support them; check out their sites, give ‘em some good love:
Tanya Geisler–40 days of hatha yoga and suggests that “Serenity. . .starts with a breath.”
Petra Korn–30 days on her body (supported with love by hubby Nick)
Tia Reddy–yoga and exercise–even though her full-o-fun weekend had her worn out yesterday, she still did her routine and posted about it!
Alisa Bonsignore–working out and food conscious
Suzie Powanda–no fast food or beverages
Julie Rorrer–training for the Austin marathon in Spring
Emma Alvarez Gibson–some bit of exercise, every day
Joyce Black–21 days without caffeine/general detox
Carabunga is rocking 40 days of hardcore productivity
Paula Trucks-Pape and her husband: 87 Days of exploring their passions
Monica Kingsbury: 30 days of the Candida diet to deal with her sweet tooth
Jack and LisaMarie Rowell: 30 days of extreme health (alkaline diet) (starting 10/15/09)
Diane Sherry Case: 3 weeks of walking
Cindy Morefield: 21 Days of 30 mins/day of cardio exercise
Paula Estes: 30 Days of playing drums
Sheila Hart is IN: 21 Days of no sugar!

What’s your 90% today? Tell me in the comments below.

The 90-100% for others, 70% (or less) for me is a familiar conundrum. Although I know it's true that the less I give myself, the less I can give others, I allow myself to run on empty far too often. Related to your Twitter question, that's what I'd like to learn about finishing projects - how do I overcome the addiction to being only "productive" (i.e. working on something for others) rather than nourishing myself? You're setting a great example by doing it every day. I guess that's the answer - just choosing and scheduling something everyday for me.

P.S. It's already Day 3 of passion. I'll be updating the blog soon. Some previews of what I'm passionate about: building real relationships and eating well.

Way to be honest about it--I can tell you (you'll see in my UNCLE post) that I'm no expert on nourishing myself and resting when I need to rest or putting my work first. I do, hi-ever, truly believe that the smallest step you can take today may have the biggest impact. More specifically, coming home today to put on pjs to conduct my afternoon work was the best thing I could have done for myself. Right now, just for a minute, nothing heroic--what would put you first?

I like that the smallest step can make the biggest impact. I hadn't thought about the effects brought about by the small things we do (or don't do) every day. And today it was setting a longer deadline than I normally would have with a client. He accepted my suggestion without a hitch (I had really been worried about it). And right now I've decided to hit the hay early. Yahoo!

I am so glad to see this thought in action, Paula. Thanks for sharing your client story. Isn't it amazing to get exactly what we ask for? Keep on rocking your passions. How's your hubby doing on the passion path?
