40 Days of My Body: Day 21, What’s it going to take?

October 12, 2009

in 40 Days

Okay–so you might think that it’s ironic that since I have been sitting still and eating mayo for a couple of years, I’ve had a really hard time taking two days off (per my trainer and my body giving up the ghost). Well, it has been amazingly tough–I can’t wait to get back on the road tomorrow! While I was off, I had the chance to talk to a fellow quester: Alisa Bonsignore, who battles procrastination and the “should do”s of self-care, but took on the 40 day challenge anyway!

What is it going to take to do what you need to do for YOU, NOW?

I am blown away by the support for my 40 days of My Body (if you are new to this story, read the intro here) project, which is a quest in service to my business and my own path of finishing what I start. I am committed to exercising 6 days/week, keeping a food journal and being more aware of ways I use (and abuse) my body. Going public is extreme, yes, and it’s working!

The roll call is at 29 people (including me)! Some are getting organized, others giving up fast food and some are simply breathing! Support them; check out their sites, give ‘em some good love:

Tanya Geisler–40 days of hatha yoga and radical self-care
Petra Korn–30 days on her body (supported with love by hubby Nick)
Tia Reddy–yoga and exercise.
Alisa Bonsignore–working out and food consciousness
Suzie Powanda–no fast food or beverages
Julie Rorrer–training for the Austin marathon in Spring
Emma Alvarez Gibson–some bit of exercise, every day
Joyce Black–21 days without caffeine/general detox
Carabunga is rocking 40 days of hardcore productivity and rocking a blog about it
Paula Trucks-Pape and her husband: 87 Days of exploring their passions. Today’s post is all about staying in the moment and having FUN!
Monica Kingsbury: 30 days of the Candida diet to deal with her sweet tooth
Jack and LisaMarie Rowell: 30 days of extreme health (alkaline diet)
Diane Sherry Case: 3 weeks of walking–she’s up to 20 minutes 4 days/week!
Cindy Morefield: 21 Days of 30 mins/day of cardio exercise
Paula Estes: 30 Days of playing drums
Sheila Hart
is IN: 21 Days of no sugar!
Amy Ahlers
: 40 days limiting processed food.)
SouperJenny Team: 40 Day hits the ATL! So far, Meredith is giving up sweets and Jenny is giving up booze!! 10 folks have joined their group. Gooo, Team Body, Mind, Spirit! Check out their Day 1 video here.
Ashley White-Stern: 40 days of meditation

Tell us what it takes for you to do something for YOU today!

Dyana - you look fabulous - more relaxed - it is really paying off! And congrats to Alisa.
I didn't walk yesterday, but I did do 20 minutes of yoga. Unless I find my umbrella, I guess it will be yoga again today!

Thanks M Arsenia: I am so glad you joined us. WOW, your writing challenge really perked me up--it may be my next challenge. I'm happy for you and admire the sensitivity you are using to take care of yourself and push it at the same time. Say goodbye to illness--and helloooo, to being your fabulous whole self. I'm on your side and will cheer you on finish line after finish line!

Diane: thanks for the consistent support--it means a lot to me. Way to have a backup plan! I am SO happy for my thigh-length raincoat (one from Patagonia that actually breathes so I don't get overheated). Keep it up and keep us updated here.

    (excerpt from my 1000 words)
Today is Day One of “Finishing Me”. Tai Chi and writing 1000 words every morning. In couple of weeks I’ll see what I can add to that. Perhaps yoga. I am hoping that my energy level and mental inspiration will increase steadily with daily practice.
Dyana Valentine, has a project called “40 days of my body” which she created to encourage others to support each other in pursuit of improving mind-body-spirit. I was intrigued when I first explored this project/community of recovering procrastinators and have thought on this for awhile as there are many things I’d like to correct and heal with my physical and spiritual self. I watched the videos of the legless and armless young man pulling himself up off of his face and felt like an a-hole for sitting on my own ass. It's time to clean house of life-stunting, garbage thought process habits!
    I will finish school:
Now that I have Texas residency I've filled out the college transfer apps/financial aide paperwork and I am looking forward to seeing what results I turn up in my pursuit of college funding. I hope that I will be accepted at University of Houston for a Master's in Psychology and Communication for Organizational Development and Business.
I will finish ill health and finish my book:
I believe that beginning with the Tai Chi and writing goals I have reasonable chance of achieving success. Keeping motivated and enthusiastic has always been my Achilles heel. At this point in my life it’s finally time for me to grab on tightly and drag my ass over this inertia once and for all.
This is Day One of Finishing Me!
1016 words. Lame. But I dragged my ass over the finish line. -MB
