Celebrate The WIN! 40 Days of my Body: Day 40

November 13, 2009

in 40 Days

WOW, I did it. I kept a huge, longer-term-than-I-thought-I-could commitment to myself. THANK YOU for being here with me. Some of you joined me, others read along, and some even joined secretly–you know who you are. I could not have done it without you. This is NOT just something to say–I mean it. I started AND finished this commitment because I wasn’t doing it alone.

BEFORE:
164 lbs
40.75% body fat
out of breath coming up the stairs to my apartment
AFTER:
148.5 lbs
37% body fat
rocking the lower heart rate and running up the stairs on the way home every day.

NB: even though I did 40 days of exercise (and more of journalling), my entire duration of this challenge was 58 days.

CELEBRATIONS: I got myself some foxy new 800 thread count Egyptian cotton sheets–YUM! And, my dear friend, Melissa Kelly, gave me the gift of a massage this Sunday to celebrate my 40 Day accomplishment! Wahoo!

NEXT:
I commit to continuing the workouts–varying them with your help (send ideas!), including:
hoola hooping at least once per week;
continuing to work out with Sunny through December (at least 2x/week);
finding a new sport by the end of the year;
giving weekly updates on my body through year’s end.

What are you committing to? Do you need help? Let us know in the comments and offer ideas for others struggling with making or keeping commitments to themselves.

The 40 days of My Body (if you are new to this story, read the intro here) project, is a quest in service to my business, my body and my own path of finishing what I start. I am committed to exercising 6 days/week, keeping a food journal and being more aware of ways I use (and abuse) my body. Going public is extreme, yes, and it’s working! I’m working with a fantastic trainer, Sunny Riggs, to create a program I can sustain over time. She’s amazing. HIRE HER!

I am not alone on my quest. The roll call is at 31 people (including me)! Some are getting organized, others giving up fast food and some are simply breathing! Check out the updates and links below and show your support:

Tanya Geisler–40 days of hatha yoga and radical self-care. Check out her ROCKING tell-all post!
Petra Korn–30 days on her body (supported with love by hubby Nick)
Tia Reddy–yoga and exercise: she found her yoga plan was NOT working and made these adjustments.
Alisa Bonsignore–working out and food consciousness she’s DONE and kicking off another 30 days, this time of writing.

Joyce Black–FINISHED her 21 days without caffeine and doing a general detox, congratulate her! She did a guest post, too!
Carabunga is rocking 40 days of hardcore productivity and rocking a blog about it. She has GREAT ideas on staying inspired and gives an update on wrassling her bitchy soul and is rocking her challenge!
Paula Trucks-Pape and her husband: 87 Days of exploring their passions

Dyana, all I can say is WOW!
    You go girl.
I am committing to nature - getting out in it everyday. Loving it, enjoying it and letting it love me!
  • Dyana, You are always welcome to come up to Ojai to hula hoop on Sunday afternoons from 2-4 pm. There's usually a handful of us at Libbey Park with hoops to spare. It's good times and good fun. Free too.

    With love & admiration...

Woo hoo! That's awesome! I'm proud of all of us. (I've been more consistent -- and deliberate and aware -- and it's a wonderful feeling physically and emotionally.) Let's pinky promise to use this momentum to our advantage. Not to become legalistic gotta-do-its (which would suck all the joy out of the process), but as a lovely benchmark (to remind ourselves we ARE capable) and springboard (for repeat "success").

    Yay!
  • dyanavalentine
Yay, US! How's your progress-what did you learn? How did you deal with the hurdles? YES, pinkie promise is ON. Keep bouncing!
  • emilysarah
My progress is "good" overall, meaning some days are better than others, but the totality is MUCH better than before. Thank you for that! I learned that an "official" status = ME taking it seriously and to be committed. Hurdles? Nothing like the flu to derail us, right?! With Daken having H1N1 first (turning into pneumonia), that actually kept me properly focused on those highest priorities as opposed to worrying about missing a workout ... and so then when I got the flu, I took care of myself and knew I'd get back on track as soon as I was well. And I did! Glad you're almost to 100% now -- it really takes a while to get past feeling drained.
  • dyanavalentine
So glad there's movement for you, ES! I really love the idea of going Official with self-care. That moves me.
  • Congrats, Dyana!! I'm so happy and impressed by your accomplishment; I am also most grateful for your challenge, as it catalyzed my own challenge and tons of productivity. :) I will let you know when I get that summary vid up (aiming for this weekend). I look forward to seeing you do even MORE for your body and your future fabulous undertakings. *high five*
  • dyanavalentine
can't wait to see the video, Cara--happy to post it here, too. I'm really psyched, especially now that my lungs are clearing and coughing is at a minimum. Fyew! Thank you so much for jumping in like a double-dutch star and creating and completing your own challenge. I can't wait to hear the report!
  • Julie
Yay! Congratulations Dy, you did AWESOME on your numbers. You should be very proud, and good thing you have sparkly teeth now to smile wider with. ;)
  • OH MY GOODNESS!! What a HUGE accomplishment, Dyana. I am beaming with inspiration and pride for you.
    :)
  • dyanavalentine
I can feel it from here, Amy, thank you so much! I have truly appreciated all of your support throughout! Thanks, too, for being active yourself; it really, really helps.
  • Julie
YaaaaaaaY! Congratulations! You did awesome miss skinny. ;) Love the shaking table btw. Keep it up, and hope you are enjoying your shiny teeth too.
  • dyanavalentine
Miss Skinny--wow, are you talking to me? That's wild. The table wasn't shaking, my legs were so fatigued they were tapping on the floor uncontrollably! It may be my inner masochist coming out--but I love that stuff!
  • heatherparlato
you look fantastic, dyana! way to rock it!
  • dyanavalentine
aww, Heather, thanks--you KNOW you inspire me, you bike-to-errands, running/walking, shrinking and foxy woman!
  • CindyMorefield
Suh-weet! You rock. And how great to have all that assessment data, so you really know what you accomplished. [Applause!]
  • dyanavalentine
Thanks, Cindy. Even though I was feeling really great and accomplished, hearing Sunny read the actual stats made a HUGE difference. EVIDENCE rocks.
  • Yay! Congratulations Dyana. What a HUGE win - and I love that you were kind enough to yourself to be okay with the 58 days it took. I'm totally inspired to do my own challenge now :) And as for workouts - have you tried swimming? You can usually get cheap lessons at a city pool. Dance class maybe? (like Zumba or something that you don't have to be too technical about). Thanks for the inspiration and dedication. Wooohoooo!!!!
  • dyanavalentine
Thanks, Alana--the funny thing is I had to take the time it took--the universe took care of that. I've been thinking of new sports and swimming/yoga are high on the list. I've never done Zumba--have you?--but several friends swear by it. Thank YOOUUUU!
  • Fabulous! Congratulations. That's a terrific achievement. You have done really well and, as Sunny said, inspired many others too in the process.

    Loved the dentist!
  • dyanavalentine
Thank you, Nicola. I'm feeling sooo good, still rolling and doing it daily--the amazing focus on my body has so many benefits--measurable in inches and in spirit lifting--what units do we measure mood? My yahoo factor is HIGH, how about that?
